University of Southern Denmark

University of Southern Denmark (SDU) has got a campus licence for TERMplus and uses the system in teaching of and research in translation, communication and terminology at the Department of Business Communication and Information Science (Campus Kolding).

One of the functions is a special SDU term bank. The bank is continuously updated with inputs from students’, teachers’ and researchers’ work. All interested parties can have a password to access the bank. Please contact Susanne Lervas at sl

SDU has worked with TERMplus for rather a long period by now and has also been a coordinator for the Norna project whose leader is head of department, ms Lotte Weilgaard. Norna is a Nordic search and concept index. It was Norna that developed a prototype of TERMplus when TERMplus ApS was a partner in the project.

Creative technical and legal translations

"The translation agency Multi Service Center translates for many enterprises in many different trades. Therefore it is important to be precise in LSP-terminology and in the terminological choices made by each individual customer. E.g. we must be able to store and remember that one of our customers calls its product "Kompressor". But if the same product forms part of another customer's products, it is called "Verdichter". Both terms are correct – only the two customers chose to name them differently."

So says Gerd Kvium Rose, one of the two owners of MSC. Our multilingual database in TERMplus 5.1 today contains the complete documentation basis of a large number of LSP-terms from different trades and enterprises.

One of the characteristics of a good translation is stringent use of terminology, stresses Gerd Kvium Rose. Correct language is a must, but in addition things must be called the same in the same translation and from translation to translation – and obviously the terminology chosen by the customer must be respected. Therefore the TERMplus database is one of the most important tools for us in our efforts to offer consistent, high quality in our translations.
